TDN Setup Guide

Send your tune to your tuner
straight from your phone

The HP Tuners TDN app lets your tuner read, build, and deliver your calibration remotely -- no shop visit, no laptop. This guide walks you through it the very first time, step by step.

Before you begin Screenshots coming soon

A few one-time setup steps with HP Tuners. You only do these once.
A

Create your HP Tuners account

Sign up at hptuners.com. You'll use this same login inside the TDN app.

B

Register your device

Add your MPVI2+, MPVI3, or RTD interface to your HP Tuners account so it's tied to you.

C

Add credits if needed

Some vehicles need credits to read and write. Purchase them in your HP Tuners account before you start.

D

Install the TDN app

Download TDN by HP Tuners from the App Store or Google Play, then sign in with your account.

New here? We'll add screenshots for this section shortly. Until then, if you get stuck creating your account or registering your device, just message your tuner -- they can walk you through it in a minute.
2

Link your tuner

A one-time pairing so your tuner can send and receive tunes for your vehicle.
1 Account tab

Open Account, then tap Link Tuner

In the TDN app, open the Account tab (the person icon at the bottom). Tap LINK TUNER on the right.

If you haven't linked anyone yet, the Linked Tuners list below will be empty -- that's expected.

2 Invite code

Enter the invite code your tuner gave you

Your tuner will send you a short invite code (it looks like ABCD-1234). Type it in exactly and tap Done.

Don't have a code? Ask your tuner for one -- it's how they connect to your vehicle.

3 Confirmation

Code accepted -- now wait for the tuner

You'll see CODE ACCEPTED -- Request pending. Tap OK. Your tuner just needs to approve the link on their end.

This usually happens quickly. You can close the app and come back.

4 Linked

Your tuner now shows up as linked

Once they accept, your tuner appears under Linked Tuners with their name and number. You're paired -- you won't need to do this again.

3

Read your vehicle and send it over

Plug your device into the car, read the current tune, and the app sends it to your tuner automatically.
Before you start the read: park safely, make sure the battery is fully charged (or a charger is connected), and plug your interface firmly into the OBD-II port under the dash. A read can take several minutes -- don't unplug or close the app.
5 Tunes tab

Open Tunes, then tap Read Vehicle

Go to the Tunes tab (the lightning icon). Tap READ VEHICLE in the bottom-right to start.

Any vehicles you've already read will be listed here for reference.

6 Service mode

Put the vehicle in Service Mode

Turn the key (or press the button without your foot on the brake) to the RUN position -- the dash lights up but the engine stays off.

Do NOT start the engine.

When the dash is on and the engine is off, tap READY.

7 Infotainment notice

Disable wireless if your car has an infotainment screen

The app may warn that a connected infotainment system can interfere with the read. If your vehicle has one, it's best to turn off wireless / phone integration for now. Tap READY to continue.

The app loads your device

You'll see Sending file X of Y to your interface. This just gets the device ready. Keep your phone near the interface and stay connected to the internet.

9 Reading

It reads your vehicle

Now it pulls the current tune off your vehicle and shows a progress bar and time remaining. It also identifies your ECU (for example, E38, GM Gen4 V8).

Keep the ignition on, leave the engine off, and don't unplug the interface.

The read transfers back to your phone

When the vehicle read finishes, the app pulls the file back from your interface (Receiving file). Almost done -- just let it finish.

11 Done

Complete -- it's on its way to your tuner

You'll see Complete, and a message confirming your tune was read and sent to your linked tuner. That's it -- you're done on your end for now.

"Your vehicle tune has been read and sent to your linked tuner. Once your tuner sends you a tune via TDN, you'll be able to use this app to write it to the vehicle."
Complete -- tune read and sent to your tuner
Step 4

Flashing the tune your tuner sends back

Your tuner takes the read you just sent, builds your calibration, and delivers it back through TDN. It shows up right here in the same app.

When it arrives, you'll put the car in Service Mode again and tap Write -- it's the same flow as the read, just in reverse. We'll add screenshots for the write step soon.

Quick checklist

Keep these in mind every time you read or write.

Common questions

Where do I get my invite code?
Your tuner generates it for you. Reach out to them and they'll send a short code like ABCD-1234. Enter it under Account → Link Tuner.
It says "request pending" -- what now?
Your tuner just needs to approve the link on their side. Once they do, they'll appear under Linked Tuners. You can close the app and check back in a few minutes.
Do I need credits?
Some vehicles require HP Tuners credits to read or write. Add them in your HP Tuners account beforehand. If you're not sure, ask your tuner what your vehicle needs.
The read failed or got stuck. What should I check?
Make sure the battery is charged, the ignition is in RUN (engine off), the interface is seated in the OBD-II port, and your phone has a stable internet connection. Turn off wireless infotainment integration if your car has it, then try again. Still stuck? Send your tuner a screenshot.
Can I drive while it reads?
No. Stay parked with the engine off and the key in RUN / Service Mode for the entire read or write.
Need a hand? Message your tuner directly -- they can see your linked vehicle and help you through any step.
